Last night I watched the Oscar award willing film, Roman Holiday for the first time. What a film! I loved that it was shot entirely in Rome and by coincidence it is fashion week in Milan. It definitely ignited a desire to visit Italy very, very soon.
Have you seen the movie? If not, it is a must see. There are so many aesthetically pleasing elements from the architecture in Rome, to a very handsome Gregory Peck, to Audrey’s wardrobe. Despite it being Audrey Hepburn’s first major role in an American film, her stellar performance won her the well deserved Oscar for Best Actress.

Speaking of Oscar, the biggest ticket in the movie industry is here. The grand finale of awards season, the 91st Academy Awards, will be celebrating another incredible year in film. Last year women took the spotlight, supporting not only the winners but also highlighting the continued need for greater female representation in the industry.
With Roma and The Favourite leading this year’s nominations in several categories, I will be interested to see what stars Olivia Colman, Rachel Weisz and Yalitza Aparicio of these films are wearing on the red carpet. I am especially curios to see if Emma Stone, nominated for Best Supporting Actress will choose to wear Givenchy. The talented actress wore a flapper-inspired, gold beaded tiered gown designed by Riccardo Tisci for the brand on the night she won the Oscar for Best Actress for La La Land. She was the first woman since Audrey Hepburn to have worn Givenchy while accepting an Academy Award. I don’t know if any of you are superstitious but I certainly would be after such a fortuitous coincidence.
Of course my eyes will be on Lady Gaga, the fashion Maverick who is known to take risks and successfully pull them off. While many thought her gown for the Grammy’s was a bit safe, a.k.a boring, I have a feeling she will be pulling out all the stops for tonight’s show.
With so many stunning couture options fresh off the runway, the fashion of the evening should be as entertaining as the event itself. We can expect to see tulle, eye catching colours, perhpas feathers and structured silhouettes.
The no host show will boast a high profile cast of several female presenters from Jennifer Lopez, Charlize Theron, Angela Bassett, Brie Larson, Helen Mirren and Barbra Streisand, all known to have great style (though J.Lo’s choice for the Grammy’s left me less than wowed). Below are my selects for best dressed from last year’s Academy Awards. Be sure to check my IG stories this evening for my pick of this year’s show stoppers.
